# What is a staggered fitment and why would I want it?
## Staggered fitment uses wider rear wheels for improved traction, cornering, and braking on rear-wheel drive vehicles, while also creating a more aggressive look.
If you’ve noticed some vehicles with wider wheels in the back compared to the front, that’s called a **staggered fitment**. This setup is popular for both **style and performance**, especially on rear-wheel drive vehicles.
In a staggered fitment:
- The **rear wheels are wider** than the front wheels.
- Wider rear wheels help improve **traction**, which is especially helpful for accelerating and maintaining control in rear-wheel drive vehicles.
- Larger rear tires also enhance **cornering and braking performance**, giving you a more stable and confident ride.
Staggered fitment can give your vehicle a more aggressive stance while also providing measurable improvements in handling and performance. It’s important to note that this setup is designed specifically for **rear-wheel drive vehicles** - it’s not recommended for front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive cars.
By understanding staggered fitment, you can make informed decisions about wheel and tire setups that maximize both performance and aesthetics for your vehicle.
